Is this thing on?
Whither Oak Street? According to the marquee, the staff is Gone Fishing until June and the hotline says they’ll be back with a full slate of films at both the Oak Street and the Bell in June. Well, today is 2nd June, and there’s nothing listed so far. Is MN Film Arts regrouping after the M-SPIFF? According to the Star Tribune, the festival finished “in the money“. The Star Tribune article is a few weeks old now, so may be heading to their archives soon; read it quickly. To summarize it though:
There are several bills left to pay, but at the end, there’ll still be a small amount of money left. (Maybe they can donate it to the Flaming Film Festival, which ended up in the hole.)
27,000 people attended, down from 35,000 in 2005. The festival was four days shorter this year, however.
Audience favourite was “Sweet Land.”
Out of 200 screenings, 135 films, 13 showings sold out.
The future of the Oak Street will be discussed at a future board meeting.

Beyond that, I guess it’s a wait and see game. The Save the Oak Street website has an update from yesterday, saying that the MFA board will not work with Bob Cowgill or the Save the Oak Street Group, viewing them as hostile.
