Water Park of America opens - America yawns
Water Park of America is open and officially in week number #2 of as today. $20 for a day pass. So I’m in a cab on the way to the airport last week, and the cab driver points out you can see water flowing through the tubes from 494 and if you look closely, silhouettes of people sliding through. Now I can’t help but look when I drive by to catch a tube sliding down — watch out if you’re commuting in a lane next to mine!
Copy from the EXTREMELY slow loading Flash Web site:
The centerpiece of the 70,000-sq.-ft. indoor water park is its audacious 10-story tall water slide complex which guests access via an elevator. Clear acrylic tubes send riders zooming down 100 feet outside a lighthouse and back into the indoor park. In addition to typical water park attractions (water play structure with tipping bucket, lazy river, activity pool, etc.), the huge facility features some unique attractions such as a kayak course and a current channel.
Meanwhile, the MOA is suing the new park — apparently they own the “of America” branding (haha) and someone was already seriously injured and hospitalized. Wow! Can’t wait to go, Mom!

Well then. ‘Tis the season for injuries at amusement parks I see.
I am kind of curious to drive by it now and see if I can see people shooting through the tubes. I guess I didn’t realize that it only just opened.
It’s not even listed in the City Pages Annual Manual Water Parks directory.
