Northeast Minneapolis Arts District Bike Map

Don’t just plan on attending Art-a-Whirl. Plan to travel it as efficiently as possible on your bike, using the handy dandy NE Arts District Bike Map.

This is an awesome idea. In fact, I bet it’s a heckuva lot easier to get around to all the sites you want to see without having to worry about parking or it being too far to walk. It sounds very well thought out.

They say they’re hoping to:

1) Encourage foot and bicycle traffic in northeast during Arts District events and Art Crawls instead of vehicular traffic. Bicycle traffic is much safer for the adults and children coming to Northeast for events.
2) Invite another thriving Minneapolis community to actively participate in the arts community.
3) Encourage the flow of traffic between the central galleries and the outlying galleries.

And to get themselves listed on the map, artists need to:

1) Provide water … (Nothing fancy, just water and cups to keep people hydrated.)
2) Keep free maps available. (The maps we create will be easily printed or duplicated)
3) Provide cyclists with (or direct them to) nearby space for storing or locking their bicycles.

Sounds simple, but I think taking the time to spell this out will have a big payoff. Art-a-Whirl is this weekend:
Friday May 19th: 5 - 9 p.m.
Sat., May 20th: Noon - 8 p.m.
Sun., May 21st: Noon - 5 p.m.
