All Those Cameras
I was out on my run today, about mid-day. On my way back home, heading from Lake Calhoun back up to the Greenway, I passed through a large group of people with cameras. I thought to myself, “I wonder if that’s the flickr photowalk?”
And it was! I thought I had heard some rumblings about one coming up. I didn’t pay too much attention because I’m a shitty photographer, as evidenced by my contribution: a cameraphone picture taken through the window of my car (when I got back home from my run, I hopped in the car and went back out to run an errand).
All the photos from the walk are right hyeah.
Having never participated in one of these, I do not have an informed opinion. But the idea of going out in a group — with other people — to take pictures seems a little… counterintuitive. I mean, you see all these folks wandering about, cameras pointed every which way. (And they’re not even tourists!) Is there anyone that participated that wants to let us in on what you talk about while you’re out? Is it the details of the picture-taking process? Or just chit-chat? Where to meander next? Or are y’all just quiet?
Seriously, though check out the photos. There are some really nice ones.

It was indeed a photowalk and you definitely should’ve joined us… if for no other reason than to find out what really happens on one of these mysterious and elusive events ;). There was talk a-plenty. Some pointing and clicking too, but there was plenty of gab to be had.
Stay tuned to the Twin Cities group for more info - one of these happens every few weeks and always in a different location around the cities. Hopefully you can join us on the next event for some juicy inside scoop!
Yeah, we had a blast. We chatted about a great number of things… some about cameras, some about family, ect… some chit chat, some technical about photo taking…
I know it seems counter intuitive, seemed that way to me too at first but then I figured it was a good chance to be social and what I found was that looking back through the whole set of pictures is great fun because they are all pictures of places you’ve been and it’s interesting to see which shots which people take and how they differ from what shots you take.
I learned quite a bit just comparing shots, let alone from the conversation and feel like I made new friends. Doesn’t matter how good or not good you are, we had a 5 year old and an 8 year old with us, you can measure up to them. ;)
Plus, as I said to Chuck on a previous photowalk, with a big gang like that, it’s easier to act like a geek because everyone else is, too.
