A Prior Lake woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to stealing more than $1 million from her employer in four years, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Heather Makwana, 42, was a bookkeeper for Data Center Systems, a Shakopee computer equipment company. In Wednesday’s hearing, Makwana said she prepared fraudulent checks and then forged the company owner’s signature, authorities said.

From September 2001 to April 2005, Makwana stole $1,044,424 in checks she made out to herself and her credit card companies, the indictment said. The date of her sentencing hearing has yet to be set.

This woman’s husband works at my company. I don’t know him, I just know of him, but I’m sure I know someone who knows him. The company ain’t very big. Hence the three degrees. Scandalous!
