How Festive will it be?
The 24th Annual Minneapolis St Paul Internation Film Festival starts on Thursday, with an opening night gala featuring Al Franken introducing his new film. The festival runs for 10 days, and will be showing approximately 120 films. The calendar is finally up on the site, downloadable as a PDF. And look at that, one of the venues for the festival is the Oak Street. They’ve closed the theater for repertory films, but they’re not going to let a screen go to waste for the festival.
Last year, I bought a Gold Pass for the festival. The cost of the pass went up 25 dollars for non-members this year, and the calendar just became available a few days before opening night. I honestly wonder how many passes they’ll sell, how well-attended the screenings will be. Or aguably more important, how well-run the screenings will be, considering how many staff members left MFA over the past couple of months. Al can only do so much himself. I’m sure I’ll go to see a couple of the films, but if this doesn’t go well, that could be it for MFA. In the short term, it’ll hurt film in the TC, but in the long run? It may not be the worst thing in the world for some new people to step up to the plate.

So many films, so little time! I’m waiting to find out what my work schedule is like next week so I can see if I can fit some of these in.
