Friendly Folks at Potbelly
I went to REI today to check out their scratch and dent sale. I didn’t find anything, but I did consider the trip a success because I passed by (and stopped at) Potbelly on the way back.
I love Potbelly because the sandwiches (toasted subs) are really good, they’re not so huge I can’t eat the whole thing, and they’re priced accordingly. One sandwich for $3.89. The chicken salad is my favorite, but I’ve liked everything I’ve ever had there.
So, today being Easter Sunday, they were closing early. I commented on that to the manager who was fixing my sandwich. He mentioned that he still had to put in an 11-hour day, but went on to talk about how he had considered what he could do for his employees for Easter (hide some eggs, make baskets, etc.). He continued to make small talk, was genuinely nice and friendly, fixed my sandwiches right up, and offered me a free dozen oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to boot (since they make them fresh every day and it was right before closing time).
So if you’re so inclined to seek out Potbelly, hit the one in Richfield, at 76th and Lyndale.

I had Potbelly sandwich for the first time on a business trip to Chicago three years ago. Good stuff. They’ve made it to Dallas and Houston, but sadly none yet in Austin.
