The New Congress
I went and saw The New Congress play at Bunker’s last night and OMG HOLY FUCKING SHIT The New Congress is awesome. I don’t even know where to start.
They have a funk/hip-hop/r&b kind of thing going on. They have a DJ, drums, percussion, bass, guitar, and keyboards. They had a guest violinist, they almost got Desdamona up there (supposedly she had another gig last night, but I could swear I saw her there), and they had dancers Mad Hatter and Pinnacle join them for a few.
I mean, this music was sexy hot. You could not help but dance to it.
There’s a great write up on them in The Pulse. They’re having additional CD release shows tomorrow (4/15) at the Tap Room in Duluth, Friday 4/21 at the Varsity Theater, and Friday 5/5 at the Fine Line.
And you can catch them every Thursday at Bunker’s. Which you totally should. Much like my Coleman Lindberg obsession, I’m going to drag all my friends to at least one Thursday night at Bunker’s. Their opening band, Nathan Miller, was decent. Made for a good combo of music, though it did go really late. I’m getting old. I can’t hang like that anymore.
I’d never been to Bunker’s before, but I hear that’s one of the places to go to see local music. I did see a couple bands I know I like on their schedule. Soul Tight Committee was there a couple weeks ago, and I’m planning on going to see Tagine next Saturday.
Word on the street is The New Congress is on the verge of hitting it big. Really big. So get thee to a show before you can’t afford to see them anymore.
