First Bike Ride of the Year!

The Hub Bike Co-Op LogoI’m not at all a hard core biker, so I haven’t been out riding through the winter. Which means my ride on Sunday was my first of the year.

Silly me thought I could just pull my bike out of the storage closet and go. Heh. Wrong. I had to put air in the tires. The chain was off track. My seat was rocking a little. My handlebars wiggled a little. I had forgotten to grab my gloves. I fixed the chain and put air in the tires and hoped that would hold me through the ride.

So I’ll be taking my bike in to The Hub for a tune up.

I knew the weather was gonna be great and it was. The sun was shining. The air was fresh. I wasn’t dressed quite right, though. It was warm out, but there was a cool breeze. So I was sweating, but I’d have a chilly moment here and there.

We went from Uptown, down past Calhoun and Harriet to Minnehaha Creek, then over to Chicago where we cut up to 48th to have lunch at Turtle Bread. (I’d never been there before. The grilled smoked mozzarella bacon and tomato sandwich was amazing!) After lunch we took the creek trail back over to Aldrich, and took Aldrich all the way back to Uptown.

That Minnehaha creek trail is quite hilly. I was definitely feeling it that day and for the next couple. But it was the good kind of hurt! I had a little bit of bike seat soreness, but no monkey butt.

I can’t wait to ride again. Yay spring!

Now your post on Swirlspice about the bike ride makes a lot more sense!!!

Hahahaa, thank goodness for no monkey butt. Your “dewinterizing” of your bike sounds remarkably similar to the tedium I go through with my motorcycle. Last night I had to get new bolts for the seat that went missing over the winter. I’m sure I’ll find them in their little labeled baggie about 2 months from now.

My poor bike only gets out once or twice a year. That makes getting it tuned up not really worth it. However, not tuning it up makes me want to ride it less. Stupid catch-22…
