Just…more activity

Big things have been happening lately around the Merriam Park/Macalester-Groveland neighborhood in St. Paul where I live…well, big to me anyway, and the fact that there’s been so much activity around here lately, it has me anxious for the start of spring and summer when people start to come out of their winter hibernation.

First of all, the big green flash in the sky that the craigslist people are all up in arms about (via mnspeak.com) might have been related to the car that crashed into a light pole Sunday night, causing a transformer to short-circuit and shoot sparks everywhere at Cretin Ave. and St. Anthony Ave. My lights flickered too, but my Oscar broadcast was uninterrupted. Whew!

Secondly, a few days ago, my beloved Cheapo Discs was robbed by two guys wearing Halloween masks. I tried to think back to that night (I think it was Friday) and remember if I saw anything unusual as I drove by, because I did drive by minutes before it happened, but alas, my memory has once again proven consistently unreliable. They apparently didn’t get away with much, though, because the store has been open ever since, and I can’t find any news links about it.

Finally, the most exciting news, I think, is that the Dairy Queen on Snelling between Hague and Laurel has reopened for the season! They have signs out front bragging about 79-cent hot dogs and new, new, new! Blizzard flavors.

*sigh* Bring on the heat! How many days until spring?

The power went out in my apartment building in Uptown for about five seconds during the Oscars. I guess that explains it.
