Poor Kirby
It’s a little unnerving to me how the local news media is treating the story about Kirby Puckett’s recent stroke, talking about him as if he has already passed on, what with all the retrospectives and excruciating detail about his baseball career (with a little sidebar about his dismissed assault charges). I understand that it’s a very serious situation, but be a little clearer with your reporting, please.
I was also a bit surprised to see that this story made the national news, but maybe that underscores the seriousness of the situation.
Best wishes to him and his family. I’d hate to see the man my little brother once nicknamed “Curvy Bucket” go down like this. He was a dynamic baseball player and a joy to watch.

I totally agree. I grew up with Kirby posters on every wall, and although I grew out of my love of baseball as the ADD developed (game’s too slow!), I always kept an eye on him throughout the stories of him charitable events, assault, going blind, etc. - no pun intended. On one station last night, the story led the news, was covered in sports and finished the news. Unbelievable. You’d think Cheney shot Kirby whilst quail hunting.
I read a WCCO.com article announcing his death, and while I understand that folks were concerned about his weight and the history of heart disease in his family, I think Tony Oliva’s comments totally didn’t need to be included.
