Second local brewery comes to Twin Cities - Surly!

Owning my own brewery is definitely up there in the Top 20 life goals. As an official Mr. Beer DIY brewmaster and all around beer lover, this Strib story from Saturday caught my attention. It’s a story about the Twin Cities’ first successful beermaker since Summit, whose new beer - Surly - launched last month. It totally reeks of a Drew Carey dream come true.

The new beer debuted last month, and is available in just 17 restaurants and bars locally, but the number of outlets is growing weekly.

There are two types - Furious, which the article says is a cross between an India pale ale and an American red, and Bender, which the article says is a darker, smoother mix comparable to a stout and brown ale.Haven’t tried it yet, but the article says you can find it here: Acadia Cafe, Blue Nile, Bryant-Lake Bowl, CafĂ© 28, Grumpy’s Northeast, Liquor Lyle’s, Mackenzie Pub, Mac’s Industrial, McCormick & Schmick’s, Pizza Nea Uptown, Radisson University Lounge, Solera, Stub & Herb’s and Triple Rock in Minneapolis; the Happy Gnome and Muddy Pig in St. Paul and Tandoor Restaurant in Bloomington. You can also buy kegs at stores listed on their Web site.

I just had a pint of the Bender at McCormick & Schmick’s last week. It was pretty tasty, though not one of my favoritest ever.

I would totally love to have my own brewery some day. I love Surly on principal, for that reason. And because Surly’s a fun name.
