The Current vs. Current TV

I heard on the Blimp 9 News this morning that MPR’s The Current is suing Al Gore’s Current TV, and finally tracked down this STrib story. Yes, it’s a fairly lame story, but I thought I’d share anyway…

I love the Current radio station and think I would really dig the TV channel if the local cable companies offered it in an affordable package (was at the topmost tier last I checked my local provider).

I did think it was interesting that, “MPR estimates that 37 percent of the Current’s listeners are from outside Minnesota…”

Current TV is cool because their programming format is sliced into 1-3 minutes “pods,” including up to a third of user-created content. The Current is cool because their format is to be formatless — playing a large amount of random and indie music with some classic mixed in, plus the The Local Show with Chris Roberts is a huge value to the Cities.

I don’t care what they call themselves. I actually think the word Current is kind of stupid.
