MSP is good enough for me

So I’ve spent more time in the Minneapolis airport traveling for work lately than doing anything of note around town. That’s given me time to compare MSP to others, and I have to say that the MSP airport is one of the nicer and more accessible airports around.

The food choices are pretty good, there are moving sidewalks AND a tram, the staff is all very courteous and the size is just about right. Besides TGI Friday’s and Chili’s for sit-down options, there’s a Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery opening soon, too. The Web site says “MSP’s Northstar Crossing is a collection of 106 retail shops and restaurants,” and while that may be a stretch, it’s definitely not a bad place for a layover.

Makes me yearn for the days when anyone could walk down to the terminals and hang out, although the prices are a bit too steep to warrant a special trip.

The airport needs free wi-fi. Pay to surf is lame.

Lightrail access is what makes MSP the best in my book. No more parking or paying $40 for a taxi ride. It’s so slick, if you haven’t used it yet you should try it.

You’re right that the light-rail is a huge asset! Sadly I live in downtown St. Paul, so a taxi or long-term parking are my only options. And I don’t think a lot of airports offer “free” wireless these days, not that you shouldn’t complain about it!

Light rail to tha airport is great. I’m taking it again on Saturday to fly out of town.

I’ve noticed travelers at the Mall of America toting around roller bags. I assume they took the light rail from the airport during a long layover.

i love the redesigned airport. it’s a good place to pass through, much more pleasant than most airports i hit (and i fly really frequently … though no longer live in the twin cities after grwoing up there).

though i do miss the concourse names by color … and the 27 various song “blue concourse” …
