More than usual?

Has anyone been as slammed with junk mail as much as I have? I don’t mean the electronic kind, either. I mean the stupid ads and flyers that come and clutter up my mail box at home. It seems there has been a lot more of it than there used to be. Is it really even that effective? I mean, I would much rather get ads in my email box. Not that I really WANT ads at all, but I would prefer they save a frickin’ tree and email me. Although, seeing ads come in paper form is kind of jarring. I keep thinking that some day people will realize that sending pointless junk mail really doesn’t help out the business as much as it should. So, when I see ads still show up, I actually look at them to see what could possibly be so interesting. I never take much notice, but I do look at them. So maybe they DO work. Ug…I just talked myself in a circle. I’ll stop now…

I cut a lot of the crap by looking closely at the credit card offers and finding the opt out information. Somewhere in their literature in teeny tiny letters, they’ve got a website and a phone number you can use to opt out of credit card offers. I haven’t seen a single one in ages after signing up on the website.

But those slick ads with grocery coupons and the like? I’d love to know how to opt out of those. I hate how they put all the little flyers inside a big slick flyer. I can never get ahold of ‘em, and they end up all over the floor on their way to the recycle bin.

    Amen, sistah.

The only one I like is the one I get for LOCAL businesses that is cute and teeny and pocket-sized. (I think it’s called SAVE or something equally bland.) I reward the people who advertise in that one by shopping with them, mostly because their coupons aren’t torn to hell from retrieving my mail from my tiny mailbox.

To get removed from at least some of these mailings check out the helpful information on the Direct Marketing Association’s website - this is specifically for paper mailings:

Thanks, Rebecca! I’m definitely going to use those links to cut some junk mail. Although I fear the one I really hate (aforementioned slick/little flyers, the one that comes with the missing kid postcard) might fall under “resident/occupant” mail, which is exempt from the opt out. But anything I can do to cut down on junk mail is awesome!

Oddly enough I was scouring my pile of fliers on my doorstep last night specifically looking for Arby’s coupons. I couldn’t believe there weren’t any in there. There are ALWAYS Arby’s coupons in them.

I get a ton of crap at my apartment. The previous tenant must have shopped a lot because a lot of stuff comes addressed to her and the infamous “OR CURRENT RESIDENT”. Grr.

I’ve taken to calling the junk mail “spam.” Mixing my media there.

I was going through my recycling last night looking for a Domino’s coupon. No such luck. There were plenty of Arby’s coupons, though.
