Is Lacrosse actually cool?

We hit the Minnesota Swarm lacrosse game on Friday, and it was awesome!

I’ve never actually watched a lacrosse game before, but luckily announcer Rusty Kath, also the St. Paul Saints announcer, had mini-videos that ran throughout the game to explain the random questions most of us in the crowd had.

I really enjoyed all the overheard comments in our section in the realm of, “Well I think it’s this,” and “It must be a penalty,” and “That was cool. I don’t know what you call that, but that was cool.”

It’s like hockey with a shot clock and the same brutal crosschecks. Plus you’re allowed to hit people with your stick! Even though they lost, it was very cool and tickets are extremely cheap compared to other TC pro sports. And it was nice the game got over by 10 so I could still hit a downtown St. Paul concert AND hit a bar afterward (where ironically enough, ESPN was replaying the Swarm game from earlier that evening).

If only the Xcel Center didn’t charge $5.75 for a 12 oz beer.

They were really pushing the Swarm games at the Wild game I attended. They had LAX 101 videos running on the scoreboard screen to explain small parts of the rules of Lacrosse. The 30-second shot clock was explained in one of them.

Between periods they had a competition between two kids who were learning to play Lacross to see which one could catch the most balls and get them into the net. That was cute to watch.

I was a the Swarm game too on Friday and had a blast. I was a little skeptical at first because I had never seen a lacrosse game before, but it was really fun.

I found out about the game on sotanLIFE.com. It’s an awesome new local search engine with a ridiculous amount of information, but they also write great articles. They did one on the Swarm and I had to check it out.

Also, everyone was really laid back and social, so it was an added bonus.

I also liked that they played music DURING the game. There were even some fights!

Again, the beer was just super expensive.
