Minneapolist?
Honey Bunny, in Chuck’s comments (unrelated to the subject at hand), asks:
ever think of starting a minneapolist/twincitiesist? do you think there’s a need?
A little bit of background: The Gothamist network hosts a collection of city websites (all ending in “-ist”).
Gothamist aims to create the best independent community website for news, events, and general city goodness in each city we enter.
Each of our sites is completely unique and strives to give an insider’s view of life in the city. We cover everything from breaking news to arts to food to pets….
You could sort of compare it to Metblogs, though the purpose of Metblogs is to give more of a personal touch.
Metblogs are a hyper-local look at what’s going on in the city. Our hand-picked core of regional bloggers give each site a new perspective on daily life; less calendar listings, more friendly advice. With Metblogs, you can read about life and times in your neighborhood, your favorite places to visit, places where you’ve never been….
So back to the original question about a TC site in the Gothamist network. (BTW, if such a site were to exist, my vote is for “tcist.com.”) In my opinion, we don’t need a Gothamist site. You know why? Because we have MNspeak. And MNspeak has the added bonus of being homegrown. If you beefed up MNspeak with a little bit of City Pages blogging type of stuff (check the “Daily Content” column), that would perhaps be Gothamist-esque.
Except that MNspeak is waaaay prettier than any of those Gothamist sites.

Erica- We also researched the “ist” network of sites before starting Louisville’s blog http://www.MoreThanDerby.com.
The “ist” sites have great content, as do Metblogs, I must add. Both ist and met have obvious success and the personal touch is refreshing. Our group reviewed Metblogs but we chose to go the indie route.
Being that both Louisvillist or even Louist don’t sound too great, was just another reason to stay homegrown.
Keep up the good work.

heh. thanks for answering my question. i agree that MNspeak is doing a prety good job, and i also agree that it’s nicer looking than the -ist blogs. there’s always much more content and it’s easy to navigate. i’m currently living in boston, so i read bostonist on a daily basis. i don’t read the metblog boston site because, well, have you seen it?
and yes, tcist sounds much better than the horrific choices i presented!
thanks again!
