Nothing like a 3-D Chicken…
I took the time to brave the hordes of little ones at the multiplex in Coon Rapids and went to see Chicken Little in 3-D yesterday. It is the only place to see this movie in a new/old and special way…3-D. It was also the unveiling of the new Dolby Digital Projector. First off, I was incedibly impressed with the picture quality of the projector. I have been to see movies at the Eden Prarie theater where they own one digital projector. Sometimes the picture has tiny horizontal lines like you are watching a DVD on a gigantic screen. This projector was CRYSTAL clear. It was really amazing. Secondly, Dolby has partnered up with Disney and released a new type of 3-D technology called Disney Digital 3-D. Disney has partnered up with Dolby, and also 3-D pioneer Real D, to bring this amazing new technology to life. It really was pretty cool. Not only did you get depth from the screen, you got roundness of characters. Most of todays 3-D technology has blurry edges or doesn’t always look right if you cock your head or turn it in any way. You never really feel that with this new technology. A lot of the movie was gimicky 3-D stuff, but even the parts where nothing was going on were cool. The 3-D gave every scene depth. It was a really great experience. Plus, you get to keep the glasses that look like the ones Chicken Little wears in the movie. He’s a little cutie, I tell ya.
The movie itself was just ok. I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much without the 3-D experience. It had it’s funny moments, and a good share of real tear jerker moments, but overall felt kind of lacking in focus. It is still worth checking out, though. Besides, we are host to one of only 35 theaters in the COUNTRY who are getting this new projector and technology. I might even go a second time just to show it was money well spent.
