I Love October

Actually, November too. I know lots of folks are July and August people, but there’s just something that I love about the time between now and Thanksgiving. It gets just the right amount of cold here. Maybe it’s just that I’ve lived in Minnesota my whole life or some freak gene, but stepping out into a stiff October breeze first thing in the morning just hits something deep inside me and I feel more alive than the other 10 months out of the year. The smell of falling leaves, the colors, the heat being gone (but not so cold as to chill to the bone), the food (throw a little cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg into something and I’m there), the hour stolen from me last spring is finally returned…October in Minneapolis, there’s just no better place for me anywhere.

And, speaking of the food, where does a guy get a REALLY good pumpkin pie or pumpkin bread around town? Any good hole-in-the-wall bakeries I should check out? I’ve only been living in Brooklyn Center a few months and don’t know all of the hidden gems yet.

Damn. Now I’m hungry.

I’ve always been fond of the pumpkin bread from breadsmith. Not exactly hole-in-the wall, but tasty nonetheless.

And I think I have the same freak gene– the chill yesterday had me feeling very perky and alive. It’s the kind of weather that makes coffee taste really good, which is also nice.

OMG, I *love* the fall. Love it. Lurve it. The cool weather clothes, the dead leaf smell, the food. Lawdy, the food!

Although I wouldn’t have minded a little more of a transition than going from 85 to 45 in the span of a few days.

Oh man. The dead leaf smell! I just came home from work and that smell is filling the air. Liking that smell confirms the “strange gene” theory I think. After all, we shouldn’t get quite this happy about dying and rotting plant matter. :)
