Movie Flashback Features in Brooklyn Center

OK. So I just got back from seeing Serenity. I absolutely loved it. When was the last time you were in a Sunday 1:20pm matinee and had adults applaud the movie? But, that’s not the point of this posting. Rather, as I was walking into the theater from the parking lot, I noticed a whole range of show times painted on the windows. But, rather than being for the latest releases, they were for movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Goonies, The Princess Bride and Airplane. Turns out that the Brooklyn Center Stadium 20 theaters are running a series of old movies for the next 6 Wednesday nights. If you’re too young or just missed your chance to see these movies on the big screen in the 80’s, now’s your chance. Complete listings in the extended post.

All Showtimes are @9:00pm
Tickets: $5.50
Address: 6420 Camden Avenue North, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430
Phone: 763-560-6300

10/12 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
10/19 - Airplane

Yes, Serenity kicked major booty. I am also very excited about the “vintage” movies they are going to be showing at Brooklyn Center. It is about time some of the stadium seating venues started playing these. I seem to remember that The MOA theater tried for awhile. I think Brooklyn Center will have a better go at it, though. Here’s to hope…

I’m one of the few geeks who isn’t all that hot on Serenity. I got tickets to a rough cut viewing back in May, and while there were technical things that needed work (and apparently were improved in the final cut), there were deeper plot and character problems with it that keeps me from declaring it THE BEST EVAR! like so many of my friends.

But! I’ve never seen Purple Rain or The Goonies on the big screen, so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for that.
