Allow Myself to Introduce … um… Myself
I, too, am one of the new additions to our fair Cities’ edition of Metroblogging. I already posted a few items, but realized that I neglected to introduce myself. And, if I hope to get to know you as readers, the least I can do is let you know a litle bit about me.
My name is J (just the letter). As of next Wednesday, I am no longer the “late 20-something” I’ve been able to describe myself as for the last few years. I will be passing the “30″ milestone on the road of life. Professionally, I’m a web consultant and writer and am an out-of-the-closet geek. If it has buttons, wires, a wall plug or runs software, I’m victim to its siren’s song. I write about technology and web development on my personal site: The Glass is Too Big.
My current primary client and office are in downtown Minneapolis, where I have a view of the river and the Stone Arch Bridge from the 28th floor. During the summer, I get to look out over the city and see just how green and beautiful this city is. Over the next few weeks, I”m looking forward to watching yellow and red wash over the green.
I’m married and live in Brooklyn Center with my 2 Basset Hounds: Bailey and Rowdy. Over the past 10 years or so, I’ve lived in North Minneapolis, NE St. Paul and Eden Prairie and like where I’m at the most.
I’m a home theater nut and I LOVE movies. I have a pretty big DVD collection and watch a lot of movies in my home theater.
I like to cook and enjoy eat in restaurants if the food or company is good, but have no patience for the trendy. I’d rather eat food that makes your eyes roll back into your head with happiness than in some place that has the approval of the “right” people.
I’ve been reading this site for about a month now and feel I know about the existing authors a fair bit. However, I’m most interested in getting to know you, the people who read here. I’m hoping to settle in here and find a niche over the next few weeks and want to hear from you. What are you up to? What are you interested in? Where are your favorite hidden gems in this city? When friends come in from out of town, how do you introduce them to Minneapolis?

Howdy, neighbor! I’m glad to find someone who likes the northwest suburbs as much as I do, and it’s nice to have you writing here.
I think it’s really a hidden gem. Down to earth working people, cheap and ungentrified real estate, access to amenities and parks, etc. I had to get out of Eden Prairie before I killed someone. You can only stand in line at the post office so many times listening to “stay at home mom’s” that “can’t find good nanny help” before you want to do bad things. And, I refuse to pay $280,000 for a house in NE Minneapolis that goes for $175,000 in St. Paul.
I think the NW suburbs strike a nice balance. The fact I got a sweet deal on a fabulous place to live doesn’t hurt either.
Welcome, J!
