Where was everybody?

I went to the Gay ’90s last night, and it was dead dead dead. I don’t think I’ve ever been there on a less crowded night. Even if you added up everyone in every room, I still don’t think there would’ve been enough people to fill any one of the rooms. And the drag show was definitely a little off. Monica West did pretty well, as always, but it wasn’t anything that blew me away. I think I’m getting a little tired of the show there. I mean, I love the big production numbers that Monica and Camille Collins and Roxie Marquee do, but it’s the same old numbers over and over again. C’mon girls, mix it up a bit! I think what I’d like to see there is some sort of revue, where there’s maybe an overarching theme to the night. Instead of just random numbers that each performer decides to do, have a salute to the Queens of Country, or maybe a Holiday show. Have someone write the show, have a choreographer, decorate the joint.

I’m sure it was just a quiet night out, but I think a change in the program could help there be fewer quiet nights.

I haven’t been to the ’90s in forever and a day. Hearing the rumors that it’s overrun by straight people kinda doesn’t make me want to go. But it’s still the best place I know of in town for a drag show.
