Rainy days

I’ve been out biking today, getting stuck in local shops when the rain starts, moving on to the next one when it lets up.

I dropped off a video tape at Nicollet Village Video, one of the best local video rental stores in the TC. The owner may hate DVDs, but ever since he started carrying them, the store has been one of the best places to rent hard to find stuff. I swear, he gets everything that comes out, each Criterion title, each box set, all the classics. It’s like having Netflix down the block. Unfortunately, it’s going to be closing at its current location by the end of 2006, along with District 202 upstairs. The lot is going condo. They’re looking for someplace new to relocate. Hopefully it’s not too far away.

I biked on to Vera’s Coffee Shop, for a Red Machine and this great little item they have there, a Cashew Chicken Salad pita sandwich. Very good, although not quite as spicy this time. The grapes are such a good touch. I suddenly got an itch to get a haircut, and Lyn-Lake Barbers is just down the block from Vera’s. Unfortunately, Jason wasn’t available for a haircut. I could’ve gotten one from Brian at 2, but I wasn’t too happy with the last one I got from him, so I excused myself and biked on.

Next stop, Dreamhaven Books, where I got caught by the rain for about an hour. So much there that I wanted to buy, and I almost spent 36 bucks on the new hardcover Doctor Who novels, before sanity took hold, and I put them back on the shelf. I think it was good that the rain kept coming down. It gave me the time to rethink my nearly made impulse purchase. After the rain let up, I biked back to Vera’s for a root beer (I still haven’t really become a coffee drinker), and some wi-fi goodness. It’s raining again now, so I’ll be here for a bit. I better plug the laptop in soon.
