Remember how when the 394 toll road came into effect and the traffic flowed freely on the busy eastbound side, but came to a grinding halt on the lighter westbound side?

After numerous driver complaints, MNDOT decided last week to open the westbound toll lane from 5AM to 2PM and the eastbound toll lane from 1PM to 5AM to lighten the load.

So, here’s a shot of my commute westbound this morning, as it should appear: free-flowing.

Good thing. *whew* I rarely have to get on 394, but I did attempt to go westbound a few weeks ago getting on at 100. I just got right back off at Xenia-Park Place because the traffic was ridiculous. And it was about 1:00 in the afternoon. Hardly a high-traffic time of day and no accidents to speak of.

Anyway, I’m glad they fixed it.

I keep reading about how this is some grand experiment that’s being watched by traffic engineers nationwide and I fail to see what’s so spectacular about it.
