Bike Tear-Down 101

Bike Tear-Down 101,

A staple of any motorcycle rider who lives in a northern clime like Minneapolis knows that you need to fill the long winter days and nights with something to distract you from your yen to ride.

Enter the “Winter Bike Project.”

In my case, I’m tearing apart a 1990 Kawasaki ZX-6D Ninja sportbike and rebuilding it. With a little help from friends (and eBay), I have gutted the thing and am in the process of cleaning years of grime from it.

Other things I’ve done to stave off the winter blahs have been hitting the indoor go-kart racing at ProKart, and attending the International Motorcycle Show at the Minneapolis Convention Center in February.

I also made a quick trip to San Diego where I rented a Harley and cruised up into the mountains. That helped, too!
