Cock-a-doodle-doo
After the fun at Trikkx on the afore-mentioned evening, a few of our merry band were hungry, and as several people were going to the Eagle and the Bolt, we decided to try our luck and our appetites at the Rooster. A burger joint, somewhat modelled after Hamburger Mary’s in San Diego, it opened as the Rainbow Rooster earlier this year. And it sucked. The food and service were both terrible, and the decor matched the name for it’s tackiness. Well, what a difference a day makes. As well as a management change.
Our dinner there after the bar was great! They dropped the Rainbow, and hired some decent cooks. The only problem I had is that they don’t serve breakfast all day, and eggs would’ve been my choice that night. But the burger I did get was perfect. The server was a hoot, joking around with us, and the prices are still about the same as going to Perkins or Embers. With Uptown Embers no more, it would be great to see the Rooster get the late night bar crowd that Embers used to get. The amount of space they have in there is about four times as much as they need at the moment, but I could totally see the Eagle, the Bolt and the bars on Hennepin Avenue emptying out at two and everyone heading over to the Rooster for late night bacon and eggs.

I have always been disappointed in the food at (Rainbow)Rooster, and the service. I went there one late night recently to find that you can only order from a very limited late night menue ( I think I had a choice of around 8 items). It’s not like the menue was real expansive to begin with. I find it worth the drive to uptown where one can get more variety and better tasting food. I would love to be able to just scoot over to the Rooster after a night of clubing at the Underground but it just doesn’t do it for me. I hope things do improve there. Talk about a great potential place for an after-bar sidewalk sale :)
