Cosmic Thing

Last night was an excellent show of the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. This cosmic phenomenon is caused by increased sun spot activity discharging solar particles which interact with the Earth’s magnetic fields to create a wonderful shimmering curtain of light.

I was able to see it from right in South Minneapolis, which is very unusual considering how much light pollution we get from the city. I hadn’t seen the Northern Lights in about ten years, when I was spending more time in the North Woods of Minnesota.

Supposedly the light show will continue tonight and possible tomorrow night, so find yourself some darkened skies for a look at this cosmic thing.
