E is for Entertainment…

I spent a good majority of my evening hanging out downtown last night. The occasion? I went with a group to see the sneak preview of Team America: World Police at Block E. The evening started out with a stop into Jimmy John’s subs. If you haven’t yet ate at Jimmy John’s, you are missing out. Yes, it is just a sub shop. In fact, the menu is basically the same as most other sub shops. What makes this one special is the people. The food is good, but the people create such a nice atmosphere. Every Jimmy John’s I have been to has been this way. It’s always interesting conversation, the music is always different and cool, the attitude is just so upbeat. I always leave with a smile.
With sandwich in hand, we trucked around the side of the building to Crown Theaters. This is the only Crown we have here in the cities. I’m sure they are all over in other big cities. The theater is pretty nice. The color scheme is awful, but manageable. Unlike the Regal Cinema in Brooklyn Park, but that is another story. The seats are comfortable and the picture and sound is always very nice. We gave our free passes and took our place in line. A friend of mine, Katie Rose, brought her laptop along so we could watch things while we waited. We tried to watch some episodes of Will & Grace but it was just too noisy. The doors opened, we screamed for free stuff, and the movie began.
The movie was fantastic. I honestly have not laughed that hard at a movie in a long time. This movie comes out on Friday and everyone should go see it. In true South Park style, they make fun of everyone. They even took a stab at actors. I’m never gonna hear the end of that from my friends.
The movie was short and we left the theater happy. I went home that night and dreamt of marionettes fighting, screwing, and vomiting. Ah…good times…

Awesome. I’m so jealous. I really can’t wait to see Team America. I have to tell you about Caffrey’s subs at Lake & Lyndale. Pete, one of the old-timers from Big Mike’s (horrible sandwiches) opened his own place and it is, without a doubt, the best of the best. Everything is amazing quality and the atmosphere is much the same as you talk about at Jimmy John’s. Check them out, you won’t be disappointed.

I will!! I hated Mike’s Subs as well. I was glad to see it go. Since I could trip and slap my face against the building (meaning I live so close) I’ll have to check it out.

Someone should write an entry on here about free movie tickets and how to get them in the twin cities. ;) (These were advertised in the Onion.)

But I’ll second the movie’s awesomeness. I honestly couldn’t believe how good it was.

I will make sure to put something in today about the City Pages ones. Other than that, you just have to get lucky, I guess.

In reference to Jimmy John’s: Yeah, them subs is crazy good, but there was one shop I used to live by where my order was consistently screwed up. It was my belief at the time that the people behind the counter were–gasp!–high. On, like, drugs or something. And they kept putting sprouts on my sub when I told them NO SPROUTS! But they were cool about it.
