A little irony with my morning routine.
I signed on to this rag-tag fugitive fleet of Minneapolis metrobloggers so I could chronicle some of my experiences of being a motorcyclist.
The irony is that I doubt I’ll be taking one of my two bikes out much if at all anymore this season. It’s gotten too cold in the mornings to take my motorcycle to work. It’s fine while I’m riding, it’s the stopping that gets me every time. I can’t straighten my legs, bend my finger to use the clutch or brake… I’m like a shark; if I stop moving I’ll die.
So. If I feel brave (and stupid) tonight once the temperature drops further, I’ll perhaps take a trip out to Betty’s Bikes n’ Buns tonight for some frou-frou coffee and bike-talk. (The website’s pretty light on content, but the coffee’s terrific.)
If I’m neither brave or stupid, perhaps I’ll bake cookies for the repair shop guys over at Motoprimo Central. I need to butter them up to help me find a powdercoating guy to do the frame of my “project bike”: a 1990 Kawasaki ZX-6D Ninja. If anyone reading has a recommendation, send it my way, please!

I was looking around for a powdercoater for the frame on my daily rider (a ‘78 KZ1000) and heard about Ultra Image from a buddy of mine that builds frames. They’re outside the city, but a lot less expensive than places like E-Coatings in Minneapolis. I haven’t had the funds to get the work done yet, but I’ve seen their work and it’s good.
Be brave! Be stupid! I am. (If we don’t ride when it’s below 50, the season is 2 months long!) :^)
Thanks for the recommendation; I’ll have to check out Ultra Image. I have to tear down my bike yet (I’m holding out for that ONE LAST RIDE), so it will be awhile before I can take the frame in.
I’ve never done a bike rebuild. I’m getting help from a couple gearhead friends, but it will be a daunting task.
Maybe I’ll run into you at Betty’s sometime! Thanks again.
